Filip Milković,
Familiar Territory

Marina Viculin Award 2022 was awarded to Filip Milković for the project Known Territory, presented at the ADU Gallery f8 in Zagreb.

Jury: Maja Ćirić (independent curator), Katarina Juričić (artist), Martina Kontošić (curator), Luja Šimunović (member of the Organ Vida curatorial team), and Rocco Venezia (curator and artist, PHmuseum).

In Familiar Territory  Filip Milković reflects on a body of work shaped by the period of lockdown and the earthquakes in Zagreb. These circumstances prompted an exploration of interpersonal relationships and the tension between physical and emotional distance, as well as (at times enforced) proximity. The work is informed by a heightened sense of collective and personal uncertainty and anxiety.

Familiar Territory is conceived as an autofictional inquiry, beginning with portraits of the artist’s closest circle. These are interwoven with still lifes of personally significant objects from different stages of life, alongside photographs of private domestic spaces. Together, they form a psychological topoanalysis of an intimate, imagined personal landscape.

The project was also developed as the artist’s graduate thesis under the mentorship of Bojan Mrđenović and Iva Prosoli.
