Sasha Chaika
Sasha Chaika (1994, Russia) is a queer nomadic art director and digital photographer now based in Tbilisi. They graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Sciences at the St. Petersburg State University (Smolny) in 2017. In their artworks, Sasha captures moments that seem to re-question situations and familiar routines in general. The artist wants to shatter the ground of understanding to invite whoever interacts with their works to play with social roles and stereotypes of mass culture and create new modern mythologies to expose and disarm already existing mythologies/stereotypes/habits, to question their naturalness and privileged position.
In 2018 they took part in the exhibition “Somewheres & Anywheres: Young Photography from Eastern Europe” in Berlin gallery EEP and joined BERLIN PHOTO WEEK. Their short film “Swallowed by the Routine” was selected for the Art Film Awards 2019 by SHOWstudio X HARRODS. In 2020 Sasha joined Futures, a Europe-based photography platform by UNSEEN Amsterdam. In 2022 Sasha became a part of PhotoVogue 100 and took part in the group exhibition at Base Milano. This year they also were presented at the exhibition in Marsell space (Milan) devoted to the MYTHS AND LEGENDS issue of King Kong magazine.
