European open call for photographers to participate on a REFEST project Images & Words On Refugee Routes

Are you an artist interested in social issues and are looking for international residency opportunities?
If yes, read carefully because this call is for you!

REFEST is an international project which, through photography, visual arts, and poetry, aims to tell and document the stories and routes of refugees. The project will gather 32 artists from Spain, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Italy to participate in an itinerant Artists-in-Residence programme and work together on tackling the phenomenon of refugees through their art medium (photography, illustration, and poetry). Groups of 8 artists consisting of photographers, illustrators and poets will be placed in each participating country with the task to produce artworks on the topic of refugees, and to document their creative process.

The final artworks produced at the end of the residencies will be exhibited during all four European festivals participating in the project:

  • Festivalito de Villaverde (Madrid, Spain) held in April 2018
  • Passagi Cultura (Fano, Italy) held in June 2018
  • Organ Vida (Zagreb, Croatia) held in September 2018
  • Balkan Photo Festival (Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina) held in January 2019
