Dear friends of the festival,

Organ Vida — International Photography Festival this year achieved its eighth edition under the theme Revelations. Traditionally, festival is preceded by an international public competition call according to which an international jury composed of eminent names from the world of photography selects the best authors. Open Call 2016 lasts from 21st of April to 20th of May and first finalists will be announced in early July. All submitted entries will be reviewed by international jury – Louise Clements (GBR), Simon Norfolk (GBR), Phillip Toledano (GBR / USA), Lea Vene (CRO), Gillian Wearing (GBR) and Donald Weber (CAN).

In mid-September, during the two weeks of the festival, best ten projects will be presented at the festival’s main exhibition venue Francuski paviljon, in collaboration with Kultura promjene SC, while the other ten commended projects will be shown as photo screenings in public areas.

Organ Vida 2016 Revelations edition will be held from the 13th to 24th of September 2016 and with a ‘satellite’ program will unify the city’s cultural and urban facilities. Most of the program will be held in the Francuski paviljon, the Academy of Fine Arts, ORIS house of architecture, Galleries Kranjčar and Greta, Dokukino KIC, Kinoklub Zagreb and open public spaces.

Festival’s jury members, all photography international experts, artists and festival directors will also visit Zagreb in September and host interesting lectures and workshops, showcase their work and get acquainted with other artists and talk with the visitors.

As part of this year’s theme, Revelations, festival Organ Vida addresses authors who in their photographic studies expose their own ways of seeing, question experience and representation of authenticity and construction of visual truth. Open Call text author Lea Vene, is assuming that viewers have the right to be informed on matters of public interest, this year’s competition International photography festival Organ Vida is interested in how authors through the medium of photography face the unknown, unrecorded and unspoken transformative and everyday experiences, personal and others fates, social and intimate battles or life knowledge. Therefore Organ Vida invites interested authors to focus their attention on the personal interpretation of the process of revelation and how they recognize it, become aware of it and document it through their own photographic practice.

Organ Vida is a two-week international photography festival that takes place every autumn in Zagreb. It brings together young, contemporary international photographers with a common goal of improving the art and contemporary photographic practice, and it also wants to encourage discussions on key global and socio-political issues. Interactivity, innovation, creativity and immersion are in the middle of what makes Organ Vida festival so successful — allowing it to become the largest and the most recent annual photographic event in Southeast Europe.
