Jan Durina

Jan Durina (1988, Slovakia) examines and reflects on the themes of mental health, spirituality, emotion, queerness, and the vulnerability of existence. Between 2014 and 2020, Durina lived and worked in Berlin (DE), and he is currently based in Prague (CZ), where he is engaged in art research as part of his doctoral studies at the Academy of Fine Arts. In addition to his fine art, music, and curatorial projects, he collaborates on the performance project ‘ROMEO & HELLION’ with Slovak artist Miriama Kardošová.

In 2019, Durina became a finalist for the Oscar Čepan Award for his piece ‘Cute & Tragic’ and completed a two-month residency at HAYY Open Space in Izmir, Turkey (where he presented his solo exhibition ‘HASARSIZ’). The same year, he released his debut album with the new music project Ephemeral Harms. Between the years of 2020 and 2024, Durina did a solo performance entitled ‘In Conversations: Compositions of Subjects and Meanings’, had solo exhibitions ‘Racing Thoughts’ and ‘Weak Season’, as well as several performances with the art-collective Romeo & Hellion (e.g. ‘Additional Feel: Mad City’ at the National Gallery in Prague). At the beginning of 2024, the Museum of Arts and Design in Benešov (Czechia) published the artist’s first monograph entitled Jan Durina: Weak Season.
